In 2024, my company made the strategic decision to pursue independent ISO certifications—ISO 9001 and ISO 27001—transitioning from a site-level certification under our parent organization to our own standalone Quality and Information Security Management Systems. The scope was split to focus on ISO 9001 first, with ISO 27001 planned for the following year.
I was assigned as the project lead for preparing our documentation and team for the ISO 9001 audit. To fully understand the scope, I quickly familiarized myself with the standard, built a project timeline, and established clear documentation and approval workflows. I created and implemented processes for change management and risk management, and brought in subject matter experts across departments to help develop and review content.
To manage the project, I used a Kanban approach for tracking document progress and approvals. I learned Visio to map out our updated processes while ensuring they aligned with company branding, and leveraged Asana and ThinkCell to structure timelines and automate task assignments.
Thanks to this coordinated effort, we successfully passed our external audit and our Quality Management System achieved ISO 9001 certification. The experience sharpened my skills in process development, cross-functional collaboration, and project delivery.
